it's not really fair to call it a granny as nix pulled the plug at 11-0 and it IS tough to attack 2 on 2... looking forward to attacking soon just to confirm how hard it is...

This was in fact the Steam posting I submitted my bug report in response to - it still doesn't work, and now also insists that I have to install the latest version of DirectX, which of course I already have installed. I'm therefore currently in the process of carefully wording a legal complaint wrt their withdrawal of support for Win98/ME platforms, and am informing them of the removal of all Steam platform games from the scope of our BSc/BA Computer Games Programming/Design/Technology curricula as a direct consequence. I hereby retire/resign from CS and will be uninstalling Steam forthwith.

ach well, we'll miss you JMAX. All I can suggest is that you practice a little hip-hoprissy and do your official professional fuck-you-valve whilst continuing to play with us on your home machines Really, XP don't spy on you. As Rex or Mex will attest, they can't even tell the difference between hacked XP and "genuine microsoft windows" - LOL You' know you're more than welcome back anytime and I hope you'll continue to hang out on this board in any case. After all, we're not just a gaming community. Occasionally someone has something interesting or even vaguely funny to say

Apologies if required for my possibly excessive prior pissed-off-ness, but it's actually my home machines that I can't currently play on, and I haven't even bothered going round the fifty machines at the Uni, yet again, to check whether they work, so home-hypocrisy is a complete no-no ... plus I've already uninstalled Steam as a way of resolving the issue - oh, and it freed up around 20Gb of my 80Gb HDD, so that was was nice! The main problem with Steam for teaching level design at the Uni is that it seems to require a new update roughly every twenty-five seconds, and that total screws with being able to just turn up and teach, e.g. "Oh, well, let's just wait for an hour and a half of this one hour lecture and if we're lucky we might just be able to see the examples I'm trying to demonstrate to you, but if we're unlucky the whole thing will just screw up, again, and we'll have wasted everyone's time, again!" - Sorry, but I can't have my teaching schedule fucked about like that, so I'll be teaching level design for UT2K4 or Doom3 instead ... Obviously, by virtue of this message being posted at all, I'll continue to drop in from time to time, but even with a reinstall I wouldn't be able to play anything beyond CS1.6, and I can't imagine that everyone who's shelled out the fifty bucks or so for CSS will want to revert to an earlier version of CS - drop me a line at [email protected] if you want to play CS1.6 and can give me enough notice to reinstall ... Toodle-pip and tally-ho chaps!
