well either that or you can use your existing HL cd key to get your 1.6 update over steam as I did. I entered my blue shift cd key and claimed my cs 1.6 update. I'm gonna buy CS:CZ as well though but probably over steam although maybe not as I do like having a nice box and CD and manual etc.

all you need to do is sign up for a steam account (using the steam installer) and then try to get counter-strike (not cs:cz - that is a separate isue which i have not tried yet). It will ask you for your cd key which is just one of the ones we already have and it will then download and install cs 1.6 in a subdirectory of ../valve/steam/ - easy as that. ------------------------------------------------------------ digressing: not sure yet if you can have more than one cd key in your account. I am running both my laptop and my games machine off the same steam account (which is what they intend) but as yet I don't know if I can play on both at once and whether, if not, I can load another cd key into my steam account to enable this. this issue would appear to affect me, rex, stix and grix as we all tend to manage multiple computers and players. I guess the alternative is to have one steam account for each cd key.

If we're all happy playing 1.5, is it worth the effort to play 1.6? For me it's academic anyway as I don't have broadband anymore and will be on the road all summer.

Indeed ... when I first set up Steam on my machines I created different accounts for each machine, each of which has its own CD key ...
