I think getting a hard copy also gives you a key for you steam account - if u download it and your PC goes tits up ...................

only monkeys buy the cd

buying it online gives you the opportunity to buy the silver edition which will provide you with a fully loaded steam account - be sure to buy it on a fresh empty steam acount though. the cd is useless. all it does is save you a few minutes of downloading. you can't play with just the cd and you can't buy the silver package in cd form.

i have a steam account already, if i am to set up a fressh account should i delete steam from my pc first ? then set up a new account and download steam, then buy hl2 silver......phew ! is it that simple, once downloaded what happens if i need to reinstall etc.....

No need to delete steam - just set up a new account - just remember the unique username/passwords for each account - you can have multiple steam accounts and you can log in with any of them from the steam application Each steam account will have a seperate directory of games so watch how much disk space you have as each account will keep all the games (it has rights to play) up to date. So make a new account, log on with the new one and buy HL2 through steam. This will maximise your buck vs number of games you can play

if you do this make a note/printout any info that steam give you. stix is still trying to recover his purchased right to play. personally i'm glad i bought a hard copy. looking forward to be shot by you mm ....

i must admit having the cd does sound more comfortable, play.com are doing hl2 for £17.99 does this give me enough to play, is cs source part of the deal, also grix cant see how to create a second steam account, have looked through the help pages and nothing is ther, any help would be appreciated
