Subject: cannot see the cs server - is it running?

Subject: Sorry grix, was working on it. Try it now or....

... go to www.globalcs.org to check whether the server is up or down and who's on etc ( nice one jim! ). Just need to get an admin mod of some sort working and then we're in business. Address of the server remains the same at 24.202.239.238:27015 - don't know why it reports "loopback" on jims webpage. < here down is of interest grix only - don't want to hurt anyone's head ! > Tried the nohup ...... & but it didn't like it one bit - server just kept crashing and restarting - you could see it in top. I don't know if its possible but I would ideally like to be able to access the server from anywhere. Its a console with messages which can be quite useful. It also takes commands I think while its running. Try connecting and then go take a look. The machine should be able to support multiple instances of the server so if you feel inclined to have a play go ahead. Can I make it run as a daemon? Would that achieve what i want?

Subject: ps

... do we want a permanent link to jims page from here or to duplicate the functionality that he's got for showing the status of the leeds and montreal servers? If you want to have a run around on the server while I am at work I don't have a problem logging on for 5 mins.

Subject: playing with your server

no probs joining a cs game on your server I cannot start another instance of hlds as it binds to port 27015 - only one server at a time. I cannot play with hlds as you ran it and I cannot kill the process because it is owned by you. If you log on as me and run hlds then I will be able to experiment. If you run it as a daemon it will run as root which is probably not a good idea - not sure how secure/unsecure half life server is.
