voodoo just knocks out the power when it suits and is definitely in control! Combine this with an erratic power supply and u can see the fun... i'll be buggered if i've to reload win'98 to please a geriatric graphics card so i'm hunting for a winner of a driver (tried 5) before we go down to infiniti and solve the problem with cash

so what did you buy? Got myself a ATI Radeon 9600XT 128Mb DDR last night

and then couldn't get it to work in my antique motherboard

Think its my power supply which isn't beefy enough (bought it as 400W but there's this fine print see) cos it works just fine in the machine at work.

So all this to say that I can sympathise with your troubles

BTW anyone else got an athlon and an ATI and having power issues?

cheers moleman, Yeah I tried it at work in my machine which has a 550W unit specifically for running dual xeons and it worked (at least i saw it POST before i switched it off) but then i bought it home and tried it in my other machine which has a 420W power supply and i got the same thing: no POST and beeps which tell me that the vga card is "bad" or missing. Hey grix, you upgraded the vga card in your athlon 1600+ ?

not bought a card yet... these new performers do seem to need the power though. are you upgrading from a voodoo cos if so u will need to use regcleaner to take out its entries - legacy reg items being a common problem to acceptance of a new card...?
