yeah you could test it on a big machine but you'd need to make sure you get the power supply right (probably 5 volts but you wouldn't want to get that wrong) and you'd need to buy a special adapter for the IDE cable or alternatively get yourself the wiring diagrams for both types of cable and then simply rig up your own bespoke adapter using short peices of wire and some sticky tape This would be a very good way of finding out whether or not the drive was working although it wouldn't actually fix the problem but I'm sure we can come up with more helpful suggestions once mex has got this far.
