I ran a couple of download tests, the first one took 71.032 seconds to download 101kbytes (11kilobits/second) and the second one took 61.568 seconds (13kilobits per second). The upload tests came back as "undefined"

do you have access to the firewall router? what make is it? there will be online manuals for whatever make it is and I can tell you what ports should be open closed etc. your ping times are a dog! 670ms! - worse than dial up from NZ to Canada you definitely need access to the firewall/router so we can fix it.

cos I had absolutely no idea what to do about it if so, my width is 840kb up and 4.1Mb down so i should be super set for gaming - grix if you wanna play with my setup to kill all the things i don't need - feel free to wire in please so mex we need to work out what the fuck this whizkid alex has done to your network. if you can get us more info, i will try to help too. first thing to find out is the username and password and the make and model of the firewall/gateway. I have access to a one d-link and a couple of linksys ones so if you can get us the make and model number, one of us might be able to suggest something. if you get the username and password, you can follow our advice

xinetd, portmap, cupsd, httpd2, postfix, sasauthld, lisa, rwhod , etc jesus the list goes on and on! it would be worth killing the stuff you don't need and I could stop it all from starting on a reboot as well as you seem to be borderline on maxing out your RAM when hlds is running and no-one is connected- from 'top' 515344K total, 509540K used, 5772k free don't know what happens when people connect - maybe hlds has grabbed as much as it can even though it doesn't need it yet and its use does not increase but ... ? not sure have to look when we are playing

default address of the firewall/router is 192.168.0.1 default username is admin and password is left blank - might work here is an emulator for the firewall web configuration - under Tools->Misc is a Gaming Mode selection which maybe worth trying to switch on - nothing comes to mind as to why you should have such poor ping times are you using the right DNS servers? are you getting your ip address from DHCP or is it manually assigned? what is the output of ipconfig when you type it in a DOS box? sorry so many questions - trying to get you playing!

done. you will now be able to guess the root password. let me know when you've finished my tune up and I'll switch it back to something at least slightly obscure hopefully this might help it not to crash so much. the memory thing is apparently nothing to worry aboot. the os loads everything it might possibly need into memory for performance reasons. it can quickly ditch stuff when it needs to and will use up as much memory as you give it although I guees if you kill everything it might have trouble finding stuff to load which must be better. cheers
