...with the server silly! played with a few configuration files and cleaned up the few obvious errors i could find. have left it running so please test and let me know what you find. Big thanks to JMAX for filling the server with maps - I will make a monster download as soon as i figure out how. mex, can you try joining a public server and let me know if its your connection or just my server. in particular try 65.39.205.72:27015 as this is usually up and its on my side of the atlantic. please try one local to you as well - maybe its the transatlantic thing that's bad at the moment......

joined for a few mins this morning and still getting huge lag? Could it be something to do with the router firewall settings? I don't really know what I'm talking about but could it be something to do with port openings?! Does that make any sense?

Subject: mega lag

Don't know what's up at this end but have huge lag when I try to play online. For some reason Steam doesn't store anything so every time I start it I have to retype the server address in the add server box and every time I log on to montreal it re-downloads the security module (is this normal?) Mega pissed off cos I want to play on Saturday but at this rate there's not a chance.

yes it does download the security module each time, v strange that you have to retype it in each time mine works fine.

and montreal.globalcs.org works fine for the ad IP address of server struggling to understand where your lag is coming from... port talk all sounds a bit unlikely to my small network brain

is it a wireless or wired network? what are your ping times? there are sites that tell you what your ADSL speed / connection quality is - do a search on google and test the connection other traffice using the connection may slow you down

It's a wired network, seems to have got mega slow though since Alex changed the firewall settings on the router. Could be coincidence. I have to admit I don't know how to check my ping times!

Subject: super slow

i pinged www.google.com from the dos prompt and it came back with 4 packets sent, 3 received 1 dropped 244ms 567ms 1199ms average 670ms I went to pcpitstop.com and tried the upload and download tests but they both timed out! Something is definately not right!
