Subject: ok enough is enough I NEED GEEK HELP
my flat mate has been givn a pc with a legit copy of XP, he has upgraded it with a wireless card and a new DVRW when booting up microscum will not let me past " activate XP " and tries to dial out....was told to wipe the dial up account ( to force it to let me set up a new account ) now it will only boot up in safe mode but not safe mode with networking options. so . . . .the only thing I can think of is to flatten it and start again, BUT do not have a copy of XP, and it is legit so if i do get a copy it will be hookie. .. . . . .... .. .. . . .. . . .. . .. .

why didn't he or you activate the copy of XP before you started fucking with the machine? if it was asking to dial out, why didn't you just let it?
Only thing I can think of is to wipe it and reinstall XP (luckily, as its legit, you have the cd right?) and then activate it if you still can (I have a copy of XP that I didn't immediately activate and now it cannot be used ever - when I install it on my laptop the laptop just hangs)

it appears that it's an insecure form of xp that needs to phone home whenever you add an unusual new component. given that it has no LAN possibilities til this is done it requires dial-up and the ability to set up a new dial up is currently not allowed in the new connections dialogue. check mate. give us a call when you want one of bilbobs mutant spawn pro corp OSs

Just as bad as XP, worse in many ways ... if it won't run on 98SE, it's not worth the hassle ...
