Subject: genius or looney?

this bloke reckons he's found a theory of everything and it will solve all our energy problems too what you reckon, energy experts?

Subject: Looney

discovering a heretofor undiscovered mechanism for generating energy is one thing (a highly unlikely thing but just about within the realms of possibility) that he also has succeeding in rewriting the laws of quantum physics as well - erm - wait am thinking - maybe he could - what if - but - BULLSHIT!!! its just another self-deluded freak being cynically marketed by a bunch of opportunistic conmen. Please! We get one or two of these a year. Nice find though.

Subject: from the article...

According to Dr Mills, there can be only one explanation: quantum mechanics must be wrong. "We've done a lot of testing. We've got 50 independent validation reports, we've got 65 peer-reviewed journal articles," he said. "We ran into this theoretical resistance and there are some vested interests here. People are very strong and fervent protectors of this [quantum] theory that they use." erm - yeah - "the standard model" as it is known is only the most rigorously tested and successful theory ever formulated. It is the basis for almost all modern technology and probably has many times the experimental verification of any other theory. Yeah you might find just a little scepticism when trying to overturn somethnig like that. but wait there's more.... But Prof Maas and Randy Booker, a UNC physicist, left under no doubt about Dr Mill's claims. "All of us who are not quantum physicists are looking at Dr Mills's data and we find it very compelling," said Prof Maas. "Dr Booker and I have both put our professional reputations on the line as far as that goes." yeah your reputations as non quantum physicists This article reads like a joke - its hilarious - also the blacklight website also reads a little suspiciously as its trips seemlessly between extremely formal and informal language. Marketing people are lost when it comes to this kind of hoax: thery plagiarise as much sciency sounding stuff as they can get their hands on and then link it together with terms like "check it out" and "groovy" - ok I made up the last one but read it and you'll see what I mean. Remember guys that this Randal Mills character is a medical doctor (not commonly known to underestimate themsleves really ) who dabbles in chemistry and was prompted to undertake this magum opus because quantum theory to him "just didn't make sense" - well duh! it didn't to Richard Feynam either.

indeed notice the grauniad article actually gets quantum theory wrong too When scientists developed the theory of quantum mechanics they described a world where measuring the exact position or energy of a particle was impossible umm isn't it that the certainty of position is inversly proportional to the certainty of the energy state (or something) ie you can know one but not the other. bloody journos.

meanwhile, back at the bunker, we've given up worrying about bird flu in favour of something called the big trip. the universe is gonna get sucked into a giant wormhole. bugger.

A big sucky wormhole? Oh dear. The universe is all shitted up. Should I cancel the milk, or will nix save us with his so called quantum physics "theory"?

Let's get this clear. The pseudo scientists here are Nix, dempsey and woox. Dempsey - You refer to the Heidenberg Uncertainty principle which is a Principle not a Theory. The more accurately you try to describe the speed of an electron, the less accurately you can describe it's position. Obvious really, though I'm a bit unsure about the whole thing and wasn't there a cat involved somewhere? Nix- B4 quantum physics there was Rutherford with his sacred cow, which slaughtered Newton's bovine bollocks. You are right to be sceptical, but remember to kill the Buddah is you meet him on your travels. Woox- Have no fear of big sucky wormholes. I am working in my shed on a new device that sucks energy out of the pedantic minds of superior sounding arse wipes to power a new race of super-mega 'flu resistant chickens which will dig any tripping worm out of its hole and chew its earthy brains. Only problem seems to be that the chicken eggs are making me trip. Or maybe that's a plus?
