Novels are for girls - men read non-fiction ONLY. There's a new film out just for you mex called the Jane Austen book club.

Blooming Hamsters by Sarah Kenchington's always been one of my favourites. Hard to find but well worth the effort. Particularly like the chapter where the 'pesky blighter' takes a liking to the authors slippers.....won't spoil the end for you but lets just say it involves buses, cornflakes guitar and a car park....enjoy.

occasional lurker dempsey recommends neal stephenson's baroque cycle. massive historical novels for sci fi geeks the first is called quicksilver and is all about the birth of science, economics, alchemy, and with a fair old dose of swashbuckling to keep you interested
