Install Ubuntu and run Windows as a virtual machine in
Virtual Box just apt-get it in Ubuntu. Its easy peasy even for you

I reckon you should get Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7 for a box like that. Vista has pretty much flopped and does not seem to be that widely used.
You can
turn off UAC in Vista which stops all the stupid question popups but there is no getting around the fact that Vista is a big fat hog

forgot to say you may find it difficult to find a virtual machine that supports 64bit guests

Can I game in Vista on virtual box?
It would be sweet to be able to switch between all the OS's I have to support and have them all access the same disks.
