I am trying to up load files to my web root with sftp, getting permission denied, what is the best practice? add me ( my user that has sudo) to the group that owns the files in www, make a temp file on the server and copy across or something totaly diffrent? i used this tutorial

Add yourself to the group www so you have read write access when you sftp into the server.
