Subject: booting linux from slave hdd...

i'm finally having a go at loading linux (fedora flavour)but haven't managed to get my files set up to complete ie /boot , / , /home go ok then when i try and get the swap area to claim the rest of the free cylinder heads it tells me i can't. i've got a 5GB space (used to be D: [unformatted but now deleted] with C:, E:, F: & G: all ntfs) free for the lot. so i was figuring i might load it on a slave drive (on another machine) but not sure whether it'll be recognised on startup. i'm using anaconda for installation, DISK DRUID for partition management and GRUB for start up. any advice... cheers

I've got some advice, get a life! I enjoyed daytime gaming too, it was good to finish at a reasonable hour and not have to try and sleep after 4+ hours gaming! If nix can handle anoher 5am start I'm well up for doing it again. Also gaming and coffee go quite well together (though not as well as dope, beer and tequilla)

In windows swap is a file but in linux you need a separate partition of type 'linux swap' do you get a nice partition tool when installing fedora?

Subject: with GRUB there will be no problem with it finding the slave hdd

thanks it worked sweetly on the slave hdd. very impressed with the smoothness of the gui. big adventure ahead.... disk druid did the partitioning automatically in the end.
