install half life protocol and make a link from your desk top to:
halflife://globalcs.servecounterstrike.com:27015/ and it will find the game for you, then you don't have keep asking what the ip address is for every game!

Subject: didn't realise we had a roaming IP .. anyhow
i have installed it but for some reason it couldn't fire up cs without me having to load a unique game key - don't know what thats all about!
coming in from cs is usually no prob . will have to check with nix as to how often ip address will change before doing owt about fixing hlprotocol.

Subject: you do not need to know the ip address or have hlprotocol working...
1) make a copy of your shortcut to counter-strike (by right-clicking on the existing shortcut and copying and pasting onto the desktop - the new shortcut will be called something like "copy of shortcut to cstrike" or something like that) and name it something like "cstrike.montreal"
2) right-click on the new shortcut and select "properties"
3) click in the "target" field and add the following to the end of the line
+connect montreal.globalcs.org +password knuckles
so the whole thing will look something like
D:\counter_strike\cstrike\cstrike.exe -console +connect montreal.globalcs.org +password knuckles
4) click apply or OK and you're done.
This way you don't even need half-life protocol installed so if you have any problems, just follow these simple steps and you'll always be able to connect

Subject: repeat it enough times and maybe..
people will actually use it and stop asking me what the IP address is every time we play! I DON'T KNOW, I use the command line, stop asking me! Did you get my smiley emoticon and does it need any modification?
