Subject: got some questions...
what game are we playing now - CS 1.5, CS 1.6 or Condition Zero (CZ)? Or are we trying to play all of them?
how big a download is CS 1.6 using steam?
I've got 1.5 and CZ but not 1.6 yet.

If you've got the retail version of Condition Zero you must have 1.6 too (over here anyway they come together) None of us who bought CZ has had to download 1.6.
Once stix and Kaiser get set up with 1.6 we'll all have it although you might have a problem if you, kix and hex all play - must be a way round having to buy a game each. I think way to do it is to upgrade your current 1.5 to 1.6 then it just adopts your 1.5, Half Life, Blue Shift etc cd key. Now that we're mving up to 1.6, I've got some spare Half Life and 1.5 cd keys you can use.

Hi grix,
We seem to have made the shift to 1.6 now - even JMAX has been persuaded to upgrade.
Kaiser is upgraded and I believe that Rex upgraded Stix last night.
So that just leaves you. If the three of you wont to play then you'll need 3 separate steam accounts so I suggest you use your CZ key for one account and then make two more accounts using two HL cd keys.
One account per machine and it should all be simple. The games all update themselves when they need to. The shit thing about steam is that if you register your HL key and your CZ key to the same steam account you've effectively lost a potential 1.6 licence cos you can only have one person playing on any one steam ticket at any one time.
So to recap - we've just moved to 1.6 and we're supporting CZ multiplayer although that's not THE game just now. I'm leaving 1.5 installed for the time being. If you need any help, you can find me on Skype or ICQ but I've been writing idiot guides on here for the past couple of weeks so you should find what you need.

1.6 is about a 350 Mb download I think - doesn't take very long. Basically you install steam and it helps itself to your bandwidth

If you install CZ it downloads quite a lot of stuff from the net as well to update the retail version.
You could try copying file from one machine to another but I would advise just biting the bullet and letting it download on all three machines.

if you wanna start up the montreal 1.6 server its at
/usr/steam/hlds_l
and the command is
./runserver
also, you can run the CZ server from the same place with
./run_czero
just thought you might wanna test your shiny new games
