and I bet you're running IE6 on the poor bastards. Those machines should be given fucking medals. That's like working a horse into its 30s for christ's sake man, put them out to pasture. Your IT department are INSANE and/or chronically underfunded. Can they not sell those machines as antiques to raise money for new ones?

Link
will tell you how the network is laid out, and possible bottle necks, bet you its linked to the volume of internet traffic, does it happen when in afternoon when folk are bored and surfing the web... what i would do is sabotage your fellow workers machines and then take advantage of the entire bandwidth, you know its the way forward, i used to do the same at design is central, limit everyones bandwidth other than my own... great

Subject: a simple ping will give you some idea
open a dos box
type :
ping www.google.co.uk
this will give you a round trip time for packets to and from google
ping google, grixnix and some sites in the us
if you can ping your gateway then you can easily ind the bootleneck
if you ping a local bigtime site and its slow then its your IT department
