you have four months to get all your shit in once they invite you to apply - they then take some indeterminate time to give you residency (a few months) and then I dunno how long you have to actually come to NZ - probably quite a while just about to send everything in (for the last time hopefully) if you want to do it get started now - it will take mucho longer than you think (twice as long probably !

hey JMAX, Am intending to apply for residency in canadia and then move to NZ Basically I never want to have to return to the UK to live unless 3/4 of the people there suddenly leave and the jetstream moves south meaning that it doesn't continually piss rain and I can buy a wee house in the heart of the lake district or maybe Jimmy Saville's place in Glen Coe in which case I'll be back in a flash - just try and stop me I think grix has answered your real questions. If I go over to live in NZ it will be as a work to residency thing but that's easier if you don't have responsibilities (before you accuse me of not taking my parental duties seriously I'll have you know that I LOVE my computers very much and I'll miss them every day until they're shipped over)
