.... and anyway you're all crap at ice hockey which is the only sport that really matters. Bringing the subject back to something more fitting for this board, my DVDs wont work on a regular dvd player. I've tried region free as well as uk, north american and NZ and neither one will play. I burnt using dvd shrink from a file set I'd made using DVD decryptor and I kept the option checked for the compatibility thing. WHY ISN"T IT WORKING Anyone got any ideas please?

not sure but you only need DVD Shrink OR DVD Decryptor not the TWO. Not sure how you managed to use both. One you'd decrypted using ONE of the above did you use Nero Recode which comes with NeroVision Express 2 to recode then burn? two programs, you only need one, ...2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1 Like TWO penalties but only ONE scores The whole process takes about 90 minutes

so far as i understand and this is my direct experience, you can only read dvds of your own region on any dvd burner - if you don't want to use up your limited lives you have to find a way to read dvds of other regions. for this you need decryptor to brute force the region coding and save an unencrypted regionless set of files on your HD for dvd shrink to play with - if I'm wrong please enlighten - anyone?

if the files are decrypted (approx 9gb) you don't need dvd shrink, just open and burn with nero recode which will shrink them back down to 4.7gb

i use dvd decrypt then to load the raw files onto the hdd. i don't touch nero personally but just use dvd shrink to recode... so it sounds like you did it the same as me. does your player have a plus or minus media preference? and what disks have you got?

I've got - disks and i don't understand how players can have preferences when you don't get a choice what you buy in shops (is there a LOTR - disk and a LOTR + disk?)

Subject: PAL and NTSC? (my NZ region dvd burner reads UK region dvds)

is there maybe an option to burn as PAL or NTSC? UK and NZ are PAL, North America is NTSC here is what I do: dvd shrink WILL read encrypted discs, let you decide which bits of the dvd you want, shrink them if necessary and burn them to dvd (using the Nero burn-engine if you have it installed) I have dvd shrink and nero installed I just pop in a dvd, fire up dvd shrink - it reads the dvd onto the hard disc as vob files- in dvd shrink I remaster (or recode whatever) and select only the main feature (leave out the foreign subtitles and crap extra features) and make sure region free is selected (it is by default) then still in dvd shrink burn it to a blank DVD+RW these have worked in my uk dell laptop dvd, my nz dvd burner and an nz playstation (PAL)

Subject: Re: PAL and NTSC? (my NZ region dvd burner reads UK region dvds)

already tried DVD shrink. My burner wont allow me to read UK DVDs without changing the region so I have to use DVD Decryptor first. Yes dvd shrink will read encrypted disks. The problem appears to be the region code. Anyhow, tried recoding with Nero Recode last night and that doesn't work either. Looked through all the options but there really aren't any options worth thinking about. There certainly isn't a +/- option which I suspect is the most promising. I think my NA dvd burner is very probably setup to code for NTSC although I'm not sure that it matters with DVDs as when you buy a regionless dvd player it can presumably play all DVDs. Got another 22 disks to get through yet. Thing is it takes so fucking long to try one idea. I get to waste just one dvd per night so I guess I have almost a full months entertainment in front of me Don't you just lurve technology
