waiting for Alex to finish his 4 fucking day download (hopefully by 20.30 gmt). Will then reinstall steam and try to join later tonight (Saturday) so I can get my ass (sorry Kix, arse) kicked by Hox

reinstalled steam and it seems to have set itself up completely differantlt to last time! Went to extrcact the map packs to C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\steamname\counter-strike\cstrike but the only things in the Steam Apps folder are 5 .gfc files! So where do I put the maps?

Okay, I give up. Waited 25 minutes for Steam to update counterstrike then with 14 seconds to go it comes up with a message to say sorry this game is currently unavailable! Another time maybe, Steam permitting.

ok, don't worry about the "game not available thing" that just means that the steam servers are maxed out and you still need to update before you can play. don't worry about the gcf files either - all the resources that come with CS are compressed into these things. Just add a cstrike directory to the counter-strike directory if its not already there and add yours maps, models etc directories within that as usual. not sure why you wiped and reinstalled steam - I sent you some emails explaining that it is your crap connection (caused by this rather selfish person Alex) but that you can play with some of your settings to improve things somewhat. will look for you on skype for a bit. i repeat: everything is fine, steam is not broken, its all alex's fault - keep trying the steam thing although your problem is self inflicted now as if you hadn't deleted steam then you wouldn't be needing access to the updates.

Like fuck is Steam not fucked ... I hate Steam and I'm off to brush up on my C++ ... at least that way I can write my own fucking version of this game so I can play when I want to and not when Steam says I can ... cunts, cunts, cunts .... bring back the WON servers now!
