Subject: 3dlabs - where do they fit in the gaming cosmos?

they were making over-priced kick-ass vga cards before nvidia were even heard of but what are they like for gaming these days? They don't figure in the tom's hardware list of video cards - they never get benchmarked - is this cos they're just too good or are they not really what you want for gaming? Thing is ATI talk about their X800 XT PE but they don't appear to be actually making the damned things and the same with nvidia and for the price they're both charging I could get a half-decent 3dlabs card and they actually do exist and are available for sale. What's the deal? Anyone know? Basically if I wanna play FarCry without compromising then i need a 6800 ultra or a X800 XT PE and neither of these cards are available. Surely a mid-range 3dlabs card would be more than a match for either of them although i guess they're not interested in games so FarCry wont be optimised for them. hmmmm, back to waiting then...... anyone seen a comparison of AGP vs PCI-express for either of these two mythical cards? Hey Holly, come crash my server!! Mex has gone to bed but rex may still be around
