Here's the deal for anyone who can't be arsed going looking: "WON Shutdown Timing July 15, 2004, 11:56 am · cliffe Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam." Oh, thankyou, you almighty fucking arseholes ... now I can't play anything at all on my night off changing nappies, it's just so fucking good to know that they're blocking access to a game I've fucking paid for and invested shite loads of time in ... anyone for fucking tennis?!

I have had no problems with steam myself but feel incredibly lucky in that respect. I do think they're cunts for shutting down the WON servers when Steam doesn't work properly yet. What's the problem JMAX, I thought you had a whole bunch of different machines setup and working on steam? I guess we need to hope that someone is gonna write counter-strike for Far Cry - oh boy I would drop Valve so fast although i still haven't got past training yet as am waiting for ATI or NVidia to start shipping the new XT or ultra cards. I have call of duty and will play. If there's enough interest I'll look at installing a dedicated server under linux - anyone know if a linux COD server exists? (I'd look but am currently on a dial-up connection in Victoria, BC. ) - although have got to say that I played it online and its a bit like firearms - we need some dedicated souls to write CS for another game engine Ach well I guess its looking like a cs 1.5 lan party at new year in NZ

Steam does have its problems but on the upside, when it works its way cool! Like the other week when i bought my work machine home and managed to get all my games setup without CD-Roms or CD keys and played the same night. For me Steam has been almost entirely trouble free but it pisses me off that you guys are having trouble I'm open to try new games but now that 1.5 is gone for good (of course I mean bad - very very bad) then I think we need to get over it and move on with our lives . Put it this way, if we can get Steam up and working then it could be a good year with HL2 and CS source As I said above I have COD and Far Cry and am up for playing either/both especially if someone writes a CS mod for one of them.
