what it the easiest solution to set up an email for caros site? install a mail server on the site or set it thru g mail or something? the idea of having to deal with a mail server fills me with horror.

If its just for the system to email out (notifications etc) and not receive email that's easy. If its actual email to receive just use gmail - you can point you DNS mail records (MX) to Google mail servers. That is how my lolux mail works - I own the domain but email is all Google.
