had an earthquake registering 6.1 centered 100km away at 4am this morning - pretty scary - wakened up by the house shaking pretty wildly and rumbling sounds don't want any more quakes - they are not fun anymore!

that does sound scary - did you hide under the table? should reduce the clamour to get into the country a wee bit - hopefully... time to study NZ geology a bit more... I didn't think subduction was going on but it appears the pacific plate is going under westwards. that big one in 1855 looks major (6.4m max uplift, 12m max horizontal! but 4 REALLY major ruptures in the last 900 years aint bad. and you don't get mountains like those for nowt. probability of major rupture number 5 in the next 40 years looks "high". so lets have some solid diy out there!
